Land Connection reflects on the emotional and cultural bonds between body, memory, and place. Initiated during a residency in Mexico, the series considers land as a living archive—one that holds histories far longer than individual human experience. Through architectural forms, fragmented surfaces, and figurative elements, the works explore the tension between rootedness and movement, permanence and change.
Working with painted ceramics, Afshani introduces acts of fracture and reconstruction as part of the process. Completed images are deliberately broken and reassembled, leaving visible absences that cannot be fully restored. This gesture mirrors the experience of growing out of places and memories—carrying fragments forward while accepting loss as part of survival. Land Connection becomes a meditation on how identity is shaped through rupture, repair, and the freedom found in what remains.
